The story takes place in the Northeast of Brazil in the 1930s and 1940s and tells us about Isabela, the heiress of the Sant'Ana fortune.

Isabela is a young woman full of plans and dreams alongside David, but she sees everything destroyed after her sixteenth birthday party, when she is raped by three of her best friends, Bernardo, Luís and Hélder. Although she was saved by David and can count on his support, Sara, Bela's guardian, decides to take her away from the city so she can recover from the trauma.
Twelve years later, Bela returns and, with Sara's help, devises a plan for revenge so that her attackers are punished. However, Bela did not count on David, now the city doctor. In addition to the guilt of not having protected her years before, he still has the same feelings for her, but now any involvement is out of the question. If he finds out the truth behind that plan, Bela is certain that he will hate her.
