It is a story that takes place in the first half of the 20th century, in Germany, and tells the life path of the doctor, Peter Berger, who is willing to do anything to achieve the status he always dreamed of, he builds a successful career, accompanied by influential people, and creates the perfect family, while trying to hide his predatory side. Peter, as a personal friend of Adolf Hitler, works on euthanasia and sterilization projects where he becomes known as Captain Velvet, he is later posted to Block 10 in Auschwitz, however, there he finds himself losing control of his life, when he falls in love for the first time and it is with a Jewish woman.
From that moment on, Peter's life enters a downward spiral until the moment he believes everything is over... but fate wanted to give him a second chance and Peter is reborn, now as Joseph, will the former Captain take advantage of this new opportunity that life is giving you?
VELUDO has had a somewhat bumpy journey and has been a struggle, from its origins to its arrival on the shelf.
To be honest, I never wanted to write a book like VELUDO, but it's one of those things that when you end up with one, you have to get it out there...
I love writing historical novels, but always with the history of Portugal as a setting, but one day I was reading some texts about the Second World War and I came across a story, which had no more than half a dozen sentences and was about an officer in Auschwitz, and I had it in my head for weeks, until I wrote a text about it and then I built a story around that text... that text is currently chapter 8 of the book. I gave up writing the book about 3 times, its launch was postponed for several months due to COVID, but its reception by the public was very good, however the publisher closed and Editora Toth wanted to continue the project, making a second edition, so the cover was changed, to give it a breath of fresh air and now VELUDO has earned its place in the sun.
